Overview

The NVA Truck is the North Vietnamese Army’s logistics vehicle in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam — confirmed from audio data in the closed beta build via the NVA_Truck_Horn event. The NVA counterpart to the US M35A2, it delivers supply drops to forward positions that enable Officers to build spawn infrastructure and Engineers to construct defensive positions.

Supply Drop — Confirmed Values

ValueAmount
Supplies per drop150
Garrison cost (blue territory)50 supplies
Garrison cost (red territory)100 supplies
NVA tunnel costFree — no supply cost

Each supply drop delivers 150 supplies. Unlike the US who must fund every Garrison from supply runs, the NVA’s tunnel network costs nothing in supplies — making NVA logistics runs primarily about building Garrisons and supporting Engineer construction, rather than keeping spawn infrastructure alive.

NVA Logistics vs US Logistics

The supply asymmetry between the two factions changes how the truck is used:

NVA TruckUS M35A2
Primary spawn toolGarrisons (50-100 supplies)Garrisons (50-100 supplies)
Free spawn toolTunnel network (0 supplies)None
Logistics priorityGarrisons + constructionGarrisons + construction
Strategic dependencyLower — tunnels cover spawn gapsHigher — all spawns cost supplies

The NVA’s free tunnel network means supply shortages are less immediately catastrophic than for US forces — a depleted NVA supply line still leaves tunnel spawns intact. However, Garrisons and defensive construction still require supply runs, making the truck an essential asset rather than an optional one.

Driver Responsibilities

The NVA truck driver (typically the Support role) is responsible for:

  • Coordinating drop locations with the Officer before leaving the supply point
  • Choosing routes that avoid US helicopter observation and AT ambushes
  • Dropping supplies close to build sites rather than forcing Officers to walk to the drop
  • Running continuous supply cycles — logistics is ongoing, not a one-time task
  • Protecting the truck on routes where US patrols or helicopter fire are active

Vulnerability

The NVA truck is an unarmoured logistics vehicle destroyed by:

  • US helicopter door-gun fire (M60D) — helicopters can interdict supply routes from altitude
  • M48 Patton fire and AT weapons
  • US patrol boat fire on river crossings
  • M18A1 Claymore mines on predictable routes

The US helicopter unit creates a unique threat to NVA logistics that has no direct equivalent on the US side — helicopters can observe and engage NVA truck routes from altitude. Route selection must account for likely helicopter flight corridors, not just ground-level threats.

Strengths

  • 150 supplies per drop — funds multiple Garrison builds
  • Enables NVA Engineer construction: tank traps, barbed wire, AA emplacements, repair stations
  • Free tunnel network means supply shortages are less immediately critical than for US
  • Single driver can run repeated supply cycles throughout the match

Weaknesses

  • Unarmoured — vulnerable to AT, tanks, helicopter fire, and heavy weapons
  • Helicopter interdiction is a unique threat absent from US logistics
  • Predictable routes make it an ambush target
  • Destroyed truck delays construction and Garrison building
