Role Overview

As an Engineer you can greatly increase the defensive properties of any area — be it slowing an enemy advance with tank traps and barbed wire, creating cover for friendly units with sandbag placements, or planting AT and AP mines to inflict casualties. Constructions use supplies, so make sure you’ve got the go-ahead from your Officer before building.

Engineers can also repair friendly vehicles, so pay attention to requests for vehicle repair. Tank traps and barbed wire can be used to guide the enemy towards prepared kill zones. Work with MG and AT roles when placing constructions. Plan ahead — it takes time to place constructions. Build before the enemy is in contact.

Placed mines don’t trigger on friendly units. They’re visible on the map, so friendlies know where they’re placed.

What the Engineer Builds

The Engineer’s construction toolkit covers both passive area denial and direct cover:

Tank Traps — block and channel enemy armour. Used alongside barbed wire to funnel vehicles into angles covered by your AT and MG roles.

Barbed Wire — slows enemy infantry and guides them toward your prepared positions. Pair with Machine Gunner arcs to maximise effect.

Sandbags — creates cover for friendly units in positions that offer none. Essential for defending exposed strongpoints.

AT Mines — planted to destroy or damage enemy armour. Visible on the map to friendlies so your own vehicles won’t trigger them.

AP Mines — planted to inflict casualties on enemy infantry. Also visible to friendlies on the map.

Vehicle Repair

Beyond construction, Engineers repair friendly vehicles in the field. Pay attention to repair requests from armour crews — a repaired tank back in the fight is a significant force multiplier. Coordinate with your Officer to know when to leave your construction position and respond to a vehicle repair call.

Strengths

  • Fortifies any area with tank traps, barbed wire, sandbags, and mines
  • Guides enemy movement into prepared kill zones for MG and AT roles
  • AT and AP mines inflict casualties passively — map-visible to friendlies, invisible to enemies
  • Vehicle repair keeps friendly armour operational
  • Mine placement carries no friendly-fire risk

Weaknesses

  • Construction takes time — must build before contact, not during it
  • Supply-dependent — cannot build without supplies in range
  • Requires Officer coordination to avoid wasting resources
  • Fixed constructions cannot be repositioned once placed
  • Vulnerable while building — not in a position to fight

Best Playstyle

Engineer is a pre-fight role. Your value is in what you build before the enemy arrives — not in reacting to them after they do. Identify the approach routes the enemy will use, coordinate with your Officer and MG and AT players, and build your constructions to funnel and kill before the first shot is fired.

Once your constructions are placed, shift to vehicle repair requests and secondary building tasks. You are never idle — if you’re not building, you should be repairing.

Teamwork Tips

  • Always confirm supply availability with your Officer before starting construction
  • Talk to your MG and AT players before placing tank traps and wire — build to support their arcs, not independently
  • Call out mine locations to your Officer so the information travels up the chain to the Commander
  • Respond promptly to vehicle repair requests — don’t stay on construction when armour needs you
  • Build early, build in cover, and build with the next enemy push in mind — not the current one

Advanced Tactics

  • Kill zone engineering: place barbed wire to slow infantry at the exact point your Machine Gunner’s arc is strongest — the wire holds them in the kill zone long enough to matter
  • Mine chokepoints, not open ground: mines on open ground are easy to spot and avoid; mines in chokepoints — doorways, bridge approaches, narrow jungle paths — are far harder to circumvent
  • Layered construction: tank traps to stop armour, barbed wire to slow infantry, sandbags to cover your MG — build in layers so the enemy has to overcome multiple obstacles at once
  • Repair under concealment: when responding to vehicle repair requests, approach from cover and repair in bursts — an Engineer standing next to a damaged tank in the open is an easy target for enemy infantry
