Overview

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launches with 6 distinct game modes — two carried over from the original game and four new additions designed to maximise Vietnam’s asymmetric mechanics. All six modes are confirmed. The specific names and full rulesets of the four new modes have not been publicly detailed ahead of launch.

Confirmed Role Count — 19 Roles

The complete confirmed role list across all units:

Command (1): Commander

Infantry (8): Officer, Rifleman, Assault, Medic, Support, Machine Gunner, Anti-Tank, Engineer

Recon (2): Spotter, Sniper

Armour (2): Tank Commander, Crewman

Helicopter — US only (3): Pilot, Logistics Officer, Gunner

Mortar Squad (3): Observer, Support, Gunner

NVA-exclusive roles also include the Anti-Aircraft class, confirmed in the War Correspondents gameplay showcase.

Warfare

The original Hell Let Loose flagship mode — a confirmed return in HLL: Vietnam.

How it works: A 50v50 tug-of-war over 5 sectors on the map. Both teams fight to capture sectors in sequence — push all the way through to win, or hold the line until the enemy’s reinforcement pool runs dry.

Key dynamics:

  • Symmetric — both sides can attack and defend
  • Sector control determines match momentum
  • Losing a sector is recoverable if the next defence holds
  • Match length approximately 1 hour 30 minutes

Vietnam specifics: Confirmed as one of the two modes played in the open beta on Thanh Hóa Bridge. Tunnel networks and helicopter mobility change sector dynamics significantly compared to the WWII version — a US team losing a sector may find NVA already spawned via tunnel on the next point.

Offensive

A confirmed return from the original game.

How it works: One side attacks, one side defends. The attacking team must capture sectors in order; the defending team must hold long enough to exhaust attacker reinforcements.

Key dynamics:

  • Asymmetric — attackers and defenders have fundamentally different jobs
  • Timer pressure on attackers; reinforcement pressure on defenders
  • Confirmed as one of the two modes played in the open beta on Thanh Hóa Bridge
  • NVA tunnel networks are likely to be especially powerful in the defensive role — tunnel exits can re-establish defenders behind a point the attacker thought they’d cleared

Cross-Play and Server Options

Cross-play between PC and console is a confirmed feature. It is optional — servers are clearly tagged as cross-platform, PC only, or console only, and players choose when picking a server.

4 New Modes

Four additional game modes are confirmed for launch. Their specific names and rulesets have not been publicly detailed.

What is confirmed: the new modes “mix up the gameplay parameters to maximise the battlefield experience” — suggesting designs that lean into Vietnam-specific mechanics like helicopters, patrol boats, and tunnel networks in ways that Warfare and Offensive do not.

The open beta (May 29 – June 1, 2026) uses Warfare and Offensive on Thanh Hóa Bridge only. The four new modes will be available at launch on June 18, 2026. This page will be updated as soon as the mode names and rulesets are confirmed.
