Overview
The M203 is a 40mm underbarrel grenade launcher mounted beneath the M16A1 in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam — giving the carrying role both a full assault rifle and a single-shot grenade launcher in one weapon. Confirmed from audio data in the closed beta build including distinct reload sounds. Unlike the dedicated M79, the M203 carrier retains full M16A1 capability and adds explosive firepower on top.

Historical Background
The M203 entered US service in 1969, developed specifically to address a limitation of the M79 — the grenadier who carried an M79 had to sacrifice their rifle entirely for explosive capability. The M203 mounts under the M16A1’s barrel, giving the same 40mm grenade capability while retaining the full assault rifle. US forces in Vietnam began receiving the M203 toward the end of the conflict, and it went on to become the standard underbarrel launcher of the US military for decades.

Tactical Use
Identical to the M79 in terms of grenade employment — area-effect against covered infantry, fortified positions, and tunnel exits. The M203’s advantage is that after firing the grenade, you immediately have a full M16A1 available rather than a pistol.
Reload
Like the M79, the M203 loads a single 40mm round and requires a manual reload after each shot. Reload in cover — don’t stand exposed to load the next grenade.
